Attitude, schmattitude

Attitude is essential to growth. I’ve talked about this in many spaces - coaching (1-2-1, youth, parent, group), workshops, and as a speaker. But I think it’s time to do a newsletter about it too, because I think there are many misconceptions about attitude, and what it can do for you!

Attitude is often first thought of as the sassy teenager who snaps at their parents, or the pissy person in the coffee shop who snaps at the barista. But that’s not really what attitude is. In simple terms, it means that how you act reflects how you feel. In your day-to-day life, this can look like a lot of things! If you’re mad that you have to send work emails - your emails may come off curt and blunt. If you’re excited about going on vacation, you may be cheerful and upbeat at work, even if it’s a boring day. If you don’t like one of your coworkers, your interactions with them may come off as cold.

I see attitude come a lot as well when we’re discussing the GENERATIONAL DIVIDE. The generational divide can create a lot of tension for folks, and it can contribute to negative attitudes seeping into the workplace, and harming productivity and rapport between coworkers. So how do you solve these issues? How do you prevent people from sinking into their negative attitudes, aid their growth, and allow them to bridge the gap?

In-house coaching can help immensely. Having an in-house coach, whether that be in your organization, workplace, company, etc. changes the game. When a coach is in-house, it allows them to get eyes on the problem firsthand, and eliminate some of the bias that may be present when people self-report. It also allows them to intimately understand the team dynamics that are already present, and what may need to change vs what can stay the same.

It’s no easy task undertaking something like this - and you need a coach who is thorough, dedicated, and experienced. I’d like to throw my hat in the ring, and remind you all that I offer coaching services exactly like this - and would be thrilled to be that coach who makes your workplace become more efficient, experience increased growth, and bridge those pesky generational divides.

If you’re curious, schedule a conversation with me - or send the link to someone you think may benefit from having conversations like this! You never know what you’ll get out of sitting down and having a chat about growth and productivity.
