Confidence is something we all desire but can sometimes struggle to achieve, especially when faced with uncertainty or doubt. It comes up in my coaching work all the time (1:1, parent, teen, group). When I am going up on stage to speak, my confidence wavers, until I take a deep breath and give myself the much-needed pep talk and tell myself, “Unnatti, you got this”.
Whether making career moves, navigating relationships, or simply deciding what to prioritize in life, feeling self-assured is key to progress. So, how can we cultivate a deeper sense of confidence in ourselves and our decisions?
Self-awareness, or as I like to call it, “living mindfully” rather than “living mindlessly,” is essential. Understanding your strengths, growth areas, and values strengthens your judgement. Reflecting on the past brings forth learnings and supports in tackling future challenges. Each time I go on stage, I rediscover myself and take away one thing I do not want to do in my next speaking engagement.
Comparison sucks your confidence, it drains you of your knowhow, takes you away from yourself and puts you in the pool with others. In today’s world, it’s easy to measure our success against someone else’s highlight reel, but confidence comes from embracing your own unique journey. I celebrate myself every day. Ask yourself this question: Are you celebrating yourself?
Failure is the first step to gaining confidence. Mistakes tell you what you can do better. When things don’t go as planned, ask yourself what you can take away from the experience, rather than victimizing yourself. This mindset allows you to trust yourself more, knowing you can handle whatever comes your way.
My personal favorite, taking action, is the most powerful way to build confidence. The more decisions you make, the more you’ll learn and refine your ability to handle challenges. Trust your instincts and move forward, knowing that even if you make a mistake, you’ll gain clarity and grow.
Confidence isn’t about being perfect—it’s about trusting your ability to navigate life’s ups and downs with grace and resilience.
And if you find yourself nervous about taking action, reach out to me and LETS CHAT. You never know what you’ll learn about yourself once you take initiative and take that first step.
Much love,
Dr. Jain
