New Year, New You?

I’m sure that this is the thousandth newsletter you’ve seen this week all about how a new year means a new you, and how you can take the year by the reins and be a better person - lord knows I’ve seen a LOT of other life coaches do this! Hopefully, my current clients aren’t rolling their eyes at seeing this one from me too (1:1, youth, parent, group).

I’d like to challenge this narrative - and give you some food for thought. What if instead of new year, new you, it was new year, new growth

Finding time to engage with ourselves and focus on growth can be tough in our ever-connected, on-demand society. Growth isn’t just focused on goal setting - it’s about getting in touch with yourself, relearning who you are, and recentering what you want out of life.

As people, it is impossible to change ourselves fundamentally every single year - humans are hardwired for certain behaviors and traits, and despite our best efforts, we are not always able to challenge this and change it on a consistent basis. This isn’t a bad thing - it’s just something to recognize. What humans are capable of doing is growing. We are wonderfully intellectual creatures and are excellent at growing and evolving, even with our ingrained traits and characteristics. So what if you leaned into that this year? What if you allowed yourself to grow, instead of putting pressure on yourself to change?

This can be challenging to do on your own. But what if you didn’t have to? This is an area that I am extremely passionate about as a life coach. I’ve spent a long time channeling my energy into helping people discover the power that already exists within them and shape it into its most powerful form. I also sought my doctorate in leadership in change because I wanted to ensure that I was providing people with proper, scientifically backed strategies to reach their goals.

What are you waiting for? Allow yourself to grow. Spend some time this year bolstering yourself. You deserve it.
