I had a colleague come up to me this week wanting to change the way she prices her services - and it led to a very interesting conversation, that I have been given permission to share.
She confided in me that she was having trouble making ends meet with the way her services were currently priced, and she feared upping her prices would alienate current or future clients. I empathized with her - I’ve had this issue early in my career. I would price my sessions lower than I could have in hopes that it would draw in more clients. It did - but I was also running on empty all the time and barely breaking even.
There is a fine line between pricing yourself reasonably and valuing yourself at what you’re worth. I do price my sessions high - but I also know that I am worth it, and my clients will see that in each session we have.
As small business owners, it is common to feel pulled to price ourselves too low or feel guilty for raising them. We shouldn’t; we have wonderful things to offer the world, and there’s no shame in being compensated fairly for that.
Tell me in the comments below - have you ever struggled to price your services?
