Saying no can feel just about IMPOSSIBLE. I struggle to say no to people all the time. As a coach (1-2-1, parent, teen), I sometimes struggle to say no to taking on a client I don’t have time for. As a speaker, I have trouble saying no to gigs that I can’t make work with my schedule, or ones that are too far away from home.
But saying no has become a vital thing to both my business practice and my personal life. It helps me maintain my professional boundaries, and prevent over-extension and burnout. Saying no to some things, allows me to say “YES!” to what I really want to. And saying “YES” to the things I truly want to do, allows me to give my all.
It took me decades to learn how to say “No”. Years and years of overloading myself, finding myself underwater at work, and just generally being unhappy before I was able to even begin to think of saying it. I attribute a lot of this to being a woman - especially a woman who was raised as a people pleaser.
I was always told that it was my role as a woman to please others—to make spaces pretty, take up as little room as possible, and have a polite and quiet voice. I was taught not to ripple the waters and to do what was needed to make others happy, regardless of how that made me feel.
I wish that I had women around me teaching me that it didn’t have to be that way and that I was allowed to take up space. To not just tell me, but to show me that setting boundaries was okay, and important to my health and well-being.
It’s a lot of what has inspired me to start my new workshop “Everything Begins With You”. I’ve taken the time to design it to be a space for women to learn how to say no, set better boundaries, take joy in their daily roles, and reshape their interactions with the wider world, so that they may step into their power and live a more fulfilled life.
I’ve dedicated myself to making this a place for women to get support from each other as they move through these spaces, and grow on their journey to empowerment. Participants will also receive special sessions with me, and check-ins after the workshop period is over, to ensure that their personal growth continues long after they’ve left this space.
If this workshop sounds like something that would resonate with you or something that a woman in your life would benefit from, please sign up or encourage them to do so! You deserve to invest in yourself - after all, Everything Begins With You.
