Should your clients follow your social media?

I was chatting with a fellow coach earlier this week about social media, and they mentioned that they don’t share their social media with their clients - and it made me reconsider my own relationship with social media, and how I feel about my clients following it.

After much consideration, I’ve decided that I LOVE that my clients can see my social media.

As a coach, there can often be power dynamics in the room with a client - I am often the “expert” and they are the person seeking help. While I understand that this dynamic is a part of the relationship, I don’t always love that it’s there - in my eyes, my client has just as much power and expertise as I do, it simply lies in a different area.

It’s the existence of this dynamic that make me love that they can see my social media. My social media shows my humanness. It shows my Sunday dinners with my son, and my weekday nature walks. It shows my sweaty yoga hair and my messy work desk. All of these things make me human - and that humanness builds rapport with my clients, and shows them that I am not an all-powerful figure; I’m just another human like them, who happens to have some expertise in this one specific area.

What do you think about sharing social media with your clients?

Tell me in the comments - I’d love to know!
