I woke up this morning on the wrong side of the bed.
My alarm went off in the middle of a dream, I spilled my creamer while making my coffee, realized it was the last of the container, and then saw that my car was almost out of gas while getting ready to head to a speaking engagement. I had to stop and fill my car and spend 5 minutes I didn’t plan for, and I was stressed the whole way to my gig.
I got to the parking lot, flustered, frustrated, and discombobulated. I didn’t feel ready to walk into the school and talk to the students and faculty. Honestly, I was just about ready to cry.
I had to take a step back and remind myself that I have the power to change my attitude. That I could change how I felt about the morning by taking a moment.
So I stopped and took a breath.
Alarms going off in the middle of dreams happen.
I can get more creamer tomorrow, and it was easy to clean up.
I got gas, and arrived at my engagement on time.
I am an experienced speaker, who can handle this crowd.
My nervousness is because I care about the material I’m presenting, and I want to do well.
It isn’t always easy to create an attitude shift, but it is very much worth the effort. I smashed my speaking gig, and they’ve already asked me to come back and speak again!
There is so much power in your attitude and how you carry yourself - what’s your attitude like today?
Tell me in the comments - have you had an attitude shift lately?
