In my time coaching (1-2-1, parent, teen, family) and speaking, I’ve lived through multiple decades. And I’ll be honest, I’ve never found one as confusing as my 40s.
Though older, I didn’t yet feel old. I was established in my career but had many more years of growing to do. I was a mom, but had an older child who didn’t need me at his side 24/7 anymore.
It left me a little lost - and I found myself wishing that I had a clearer direction to go in at the time. I figured things out eventually, but I could have used some guidance.
My story is far from singular. I’ve spoken with many women over the years in the same place. And I’ve come to appreciate the role of coaching for things like this.
Coaching is an accelerant - it doesn’t give you the ability to do things you previously couldn’t, but it does propel you toward your goals and helps you grow along the way. With pillars rooted in relational development and communication, it’s also a wonderful tool to strengthen interpersonal relationships of all kinds. Parents find themselves communicating better with their bosses and their children. Business owners have said that they feel more comfortable with their employees. It’s like a turtle coming out of its shell - a coach doesn’t crack the shell open, they just create the right environment for the turtle to come out on its own.
Maybe you can relate to this - and you find yourself wondering if coaching could be right for you. Regardless of where you find yourself in life, whether it be here or somewhere with other familiar feelings, coaching may be an excellent starting point. I encourage you to reach out and schedule a conversation with me - you never know how 20 minutes can change your life.
And as always, be kind to yourself through transitional periods. Life ebbs and flows and it’s not always predictable along the way.
Much love,
Doc
