The Future of Work Looks Different (and That’s Not a Bad Thing)

I’ve been having more and more conversations with young professionals in my 1:1 coaching who are saying the same thing:

“I don’t want to do work that doesn’t matter to me.”

If you’re nodding along or raising your eyebrows, you’re not alone. There’s a real shift happening in the workforce, especially among Gen Z and younger Millennials. And it’s not just a trend — it’s a redefinition of what work should look like.

In fact, a 2023 report by Gusto found that 42% of new business owners in the U.S. are under 35. That’s not a fluke. It’s a signal.

Here’s what I’m seeing (and hearing):

Young folks are choosing values and purpose over credentials and titles. They want to find meaning in their work - they don’t just want the paycheck.

They’re turning side hustles into businesses, using tools that didn’t exist a decade ago, like TikTok, Instagram, and AI.

Job security means little to them, the way it has to older generations. Many states are now at-will employers. A pandemic, two financial crashes, and continuous global conflict mean the employment landscape is always changing.

This isn’t about being lazy or entitled — it’s about being intentional.

And for organizations, leaders, and even parents trying to make sense of it all, it’s time to shift from judgment to curiosity.

This is where I come in. Through coaching, I help young professionals build businesses that align with who they are. Through speaking, I help companies and leaders understand what drives this generation — and how to create spaces where everyone can thrive.

If you’re a young person exploring entrepreneurship or someone who’s working to bridge the generational gap in your workplace, I’d love to connect.

We can either resist the change or help shape it.

Much Love,
