Lately, I’ve been enamored with the power of group work. As you all likely know, most of my coaching work is centered around individuals, teens, parents, or families. And speaking engagements are a whole different ball game. But I’ve recently moved more into coaching with large groups and organizations, and I am in love with it!
I’ve done a handful of these group sessions so far - and every single time I find myself floored by the amount of courage, wisdom, and support that bleeds through these group sessions.
It’s incredible to watch people come together because of a shared issue, or systemic barrier, and watch the ideas populate and individuals band together to support each other and overcome a multitude of things.
In a few days, I’ll be coaching a group of women in the CEC sect of the Navy, about the challenges that come with being a woman in STEM, and the systemic barriers they often face. We’ll also be talking about imposter syndrome, leadership styles, and how to engage in career growth despite the accompanying challenges.
In early November, I’m offering a group coaching session/workshop targeted toward women, that focuses on structuring an identity outside of the typical “roles” we find ourselves forced into. Social roles, work roles, familial roles, etc. I’ll be focusing on how these roles develop, how to determine whether or not they’re important to them, and then steps to take if they want to strengthen these roles, or move away from them. Even further, regardless of their feelings about that role, I’ll be helping women define themselves outside their roles, and step into a life that fulfills them, within, and without, their roles.
If you’re interested in this workshop, please reach out to me! We may still have some seats left, and we’d be happy to have you.
And if you’re sitting here wondering whether or not workshops or group coaching work, don’t just take it from me, take it from the research. Research has shown that personal development workshops have a positive influence on a number of factors, including conscientiousness, compassion, and general well-being. Group coaching can even aid task performance and motivation! Research has also shown that workshops can have a negative (or a reducing effect) on sleep disturbances, and pain. Generally, workshops focusing on personal development have been mostly correlated with positive outcomes - so if you want to encourage some of these things in yourself, don’t be afraid to sign up! You never know what could happen with a little extra effort.
Hope to see you there!
