Your attitude, courage, and mindset, will determine your success!

Attitude, courage, and mindset: three things I hold SO close to my heart in my coaching practice, and in my day-to-day life… and something I don’t believe I’ve spoken about in depth to you all.

To me, attitude is how you carry yourself, and mindset is how you think about yourself and the world around you.

Seems similar, but the nuance is important. Attitude is what allows me to speak to universities and Rotary clubs, and have charisma and power as a speaker. It’s the way I present myself in my group coaching sessions, and when I work with teens, parents, or 1-2-1’s! My attitude carries me, and allows me to be the Dr. Unnati Jain that you all know (and who I hope you love)!

Mindset is how you operate; how you think about things as you approach tasks you’re doing, thinking about your work, and sometimes even thinking about your own thinking! Mindset is what sets you up for success. Mindset can inform attitude - if I am thoughtful, considerate, and reflective when coming into a coaching session, I am much more likely to present a good and comforting attitude to my clients. If I am scattered, intense, or flustered, my attitude may reflect that and negatively impact my client.

Each morning, I take a few minutes before I start my work to ensure that my mindset is in the right place. Am I grounded? Thoughtful? Ready to take things as they come? It sets me up to be present and prepared for all the things that may come my way each day. I also double-check my attitude - am I snappy and irritable? Am I frantic? Am I showing who I’m interacting with that I DO want to be there, and that I am invested?

So how is courage related to all of this? Courage lies in the choices you make - both about your attitude and your mindset. It is your desire or ability to move forward when you’re uncertain, afraid, or lacking self-assurance. It’s the decision to jump, when you’re standing at the edge of the diving board, uncertain of whether or not you’ll stick the landing.

A university reached out to me about these topics - and I’ll be speaking with some lovely high school students about this exact thing this week. I’ve created a little workbook for them about these topics. By the end of the workshop, our goal is for the students to understand attitude, courage, and mindset a little bit more, and have some concrete tools they can use to strengthen these things, and help them find success as they begin to leave high school and enter university. High school is a critical period for these things to develop, so I am thrilled that I get to work with these students on such a crucial topic.

If you find yourself interested in attitude, courage, mindset, or other topics related to personal and professional development, consider reaching out to me on my website and scheduling a free consultation. I would be happy to plan a workshop, engage in coaching with you, or create a speaking event to encourage your development.
